From gold rush roots to modern hospitality: Royal Hotel for sale in Adelong
It’s one of those recurring fantasies many people have: what would it be like to own a pub?
Now there’s a chance to turn that dream into reality in picturesque Adelong, a gateway town to the Snowy Mountains about two hours from Canberra.
The Royal Hotel sits on more than 2000 square metres on a prominent corner site on the Snowy Mountains Highway, just 30 minutes from the Hume Highway.
The pub was built in the 1850s by a Scottish immigrant businessman during the gold rush and was originally called The Rising Moon. It has been rebuilt, renamed and restored several times throughout its 170-year history.
It made national headlines in 2005 when it was nearly destroyed by a B-double truck, an event that prompted further repairs and restoration work.
Known locally as “the top pub”, the property now comprises a spacious bar, a bistro, eight guest rooms and a manager’s residence.
Dan McDonald of McDonald Hospitality Brokers says the hotel represents an attractive freehold and business opportunity.
“It offers strong income streams from bar sales, bistro meals and guest accommodation,” he says. “There’s also an opportunity for an owner-occupier to further grow the business through increased trading hours and promotion of the accommodation.”
McDonald says there is also scope to add cabins to the landholding, subject to approval.
