Tamar Valley hospitality venue Strathlynn listed for sale
Tasmania’s bucolic Tamar Valley is renowned for its sprawling vineyards and quaint cellar doors, but the latest property to be listed for sale there is a vine-free proposition.
Strathlynn is a purpose-built hospitality and function venue on a 3589-square-metre parcel, surrounded by mature vineyards and offering views over the languid Tamar River.
The venue features established restaurant and function areas, kitchen and bar facilities, generous outdoor entertaining spaces and on-site parking.
Listing agent Ben Galvin of Howell Property Group says standalone venues of this type are rare in the region.
“It’s very difficult to find a hospitality venue in the area without needing to take on a larger agricultural holding,” Galvin says. “Strathlynn doesn’t come with all that baggage.”
Offered with vacant possession, the venue occupies a prominent position on the Tamar Valley Wine Route and is primed to benefit from passing tourists.
The route encompasses more than 30 cellar doors, winding through rolling vineyards, historic estates and charming rural communities on both banks of the Tamar River.
The property has a long history as a destination dining venue and enjoys strong name recognition.

“It’s right at the heart of Tasmanian wine country, but it also enjoys proximity to Launceston, which makes it ideal for either hospitality or private use,” Galvin says.
The vendor is Pipers Brook Vineyard, a well-known cool-climate wine producer that owns the surrounding agricultural land.
Strathlynn’s origins as a hospitality destination can be traced to the expansion of Pipers Brook during the 1990s, when the building was developed as Strathlynn Wine Centre, incorporating a restaurant, gallery and wine sales facilities.

Strathlynn also established itself as a recognised dining destination through its association with acclaimed Tasmanian chef Daniel Alps.
Operating as Daniel Alps Restaurant at Strathlynn, the venue celebrated regional produce and local wines, attracting visitors seeking a distinctive Tamar Valley dining experience.
Strathlynn also became a popular setting for weddings, private functions and special occasions, both with parties from Launceston and those from further afield.
Galvin says the vendor has “simply decided it’s time” to sell the holding.
“It’s not part of their core business to be a commercial landlord or to run a hospitality venue themselves,” Galvin says. “They recognise that it is a fantastic opportunity for someone; it’s just that their priorities are not in that space.”
Howell Property Group is accepting expressions of interest until December 1.
