Queechy Motel St Helens listed for sale in Tasmania
A beloved bayside motel on Tasmania’s picturesque north-east coast has been listed for sale with its complete inventory, presenting a ‘ready to go’ opportunity for an owner-operator or investor.
The Queechy Motel is located in St Helens on the calm shores of Georges Bay, a small body of water separated from the Tasman Sea by a narrow peninsula.
Marcus Douglas, agent at Shepherd & Heap, says the motel has a loyal clientele and often operates at full occupancy.
“It’s a profitable enterprise, and it’s being sold in fully operational condition, so the new owner can hit the ground running,” he says.
On a 2546 square metre parcel, the motel comprises six units and a generous two-storey manager’s residence.
A separate two-storey building, which was formerly a restaurant and is currently vacant, could be converted into additional accommodation, subject to council approval. There is also ample on-site parking.

Queechy’s current owner, a significant landholder in St Helens, has operated the asset himself for many years.
“He has done a tremendous job of maintaining the motel and developing a loyal customer base, but the time has come for him to retire,” Douglas says.
He adds that the opportunity is particularly suited to an owner-operator with ambitions to build on the motel’s strong fundamentals.
“It is a significant lifestyle opportunity for someone with the energy to develop it further,” he says.
“Based on the financials, there’s a strong argument to be made for converting one or both of the two-storey buildings into additional accommodation and really taking advantage of the motel’s position and reputation.”
The vendor is considering all reasonable offers, Douglas adds: “Based on the asset’s performance and potential, offers in the low-to-mid $2 million range may be considered.”
