Key tenant renews lease as Perth's Allendale Square embarks on refurbishment
One of Perth’s most famous landmark high-rise buildings is set to embark on an extensive refurbishment as major development continues to revitalise the Perth CBD and foreshore.
The upgrade to Allendale Square, overlooking the Swan River and new entertainment and tourism precinct Elizabeth Quay, will include a new ground floor, lobby and retail plaza servicing the area surrounding Mirvac’s flagship tower on St Georges Terrace.
The refurbishment project, which is due to begin in May, also extends to the suites of long-standing key tenant Francis Burt Chambers, which Mirvac announced this week had just signed a new 15-year lease.

The legal office tenancy will expand from about 5100 square metres to 6000 square metres and will have new lift lobbies and bathrooms, LED lighting and carpet.
Francis Burt Chambers’ lease is 23 per cent of office net lettable area, bringing the building to 93 per cent leased.
Mirvac’s group executive of office, Andrew Butler, said the lease renewal was testament to Mirvac’s commitment to enhancing the tenant experience at Allendale Square. The building’s close proximity to Elizabeth Quay meant the office tower was well positioned to capitalise on future growth of the city.
“With the redevelopment of this landmark office tower, we are not only able to contribute to the wider revitalisation of the CBD but deliver a high-quality office and retail environment that will attract and retain high-calibre tenants such as Francis Burt Chambers,” Mr Butler said.
The 32-storey tower’s lifts also will be upgraded and the building fitted with new end-of-trip facilities for staff who use bicycles or other non-vehicle means to travel to work.
The site is close to shops, buses and trains, with a thoroughfare to the Hay Street Mall and Elizabeth Quay.
Allendale Square is considered significant as an example of late-20th century modern architecture by the State Heritage Office.
The 132-metre aluminium-clad building, which is on the corner of St Georges Terrace and Sherwood Court, was the tallest in Perth for one year before it was edged out by the 140-metre St Martins Tower in 1977.
Perth’s tallest building, Central Park Tower, is 249 metres tall.
Allendale Square is a close to major law courts, including the new Supreme Court of WA which will open at the Mirvac-developed David Malcolm Justice Centre in mid-2016.
