Greenwood childcare buys into Sydney's Central Park

Sydney’s Central Park apartment and retail complex is set to host two childcare centres from 2018, after Greenwood Early Education Centres entered into option agreements for two residential buildings.

Combined, the two centres will have a 180-child capacity to become a childcare hub for the CBD and surrounds and a significant advance for the mixed-use building model.

The first centre will be located within the DUO towers located on Broadway, designed by UK architects Foster + Partners, and expected to open in early 2018.

The second centre will be located within Wonderland, the fjmt-designed residential building scheduled to open in late 2018.

Central Park’s project director, Mick Caddey, said the addition of two major childcare centres would provide for both residential and commercial tenants, and deliver on the masterplan vision for the Central Park precinct.

“Childcare is a highly sought-after, much needed and under-supplied service across the entire city of Sydney,” Mr Caddey said.

“Frasers Property and Sekisui House are delighted to be delivering two new Greenwood Early Education Centres at Central Park which will be a welcomed new amenity to residents as well the wider inner-city community.

“Residents of Central Park will also soon have one of the most diverse retail offerings of any major mixed-use development in Sydney.”

The openings will represent the 20th and 21st large-scale openings in the Sydney region for the burgeoning Greenwood, which was established in 2013 and has plans to open in six more locations across Sydney in the next 12 months.

“Opening in Central Park will mark a significant milestone for Greenwood,” managing director Sam Benjamin said.

“By the time these centres open, they will be Greenwood’s 20th and 21st major childcare centres to open in the Sydney metropolitan region.

“We will offer parents in Central Park and Chippendale one of the most exciting and sustainable concepts in early education for children up to five years of age”.

Frasers Property, in conjunction with Greenwood, will direct the design and fit-out of the two childcare centres along with SJB Architecture.

Development Applications are expected to be lodged for the both centres later this year.
