Escape to Tasmania: Six properties for your Apple Isle sea or tree-change

With Tasmania set to reopen its borders to NSW residents from November 6, and potentially Victoria from December 1, mainlanders can again plot their Apple Isle tree or sea-change plans with confidence.

To help you get started, we’ve tracked down some of the best listings currently on the market, from idyllic farmhouses to stunning seaside guesthouses.

This restored farmhouse in Hamilton – in the Derwent Valley, north of Hobart – was built around 1828.

Known as ‘Rosevale’, it was built in Colonial Georgian style and features a formal drawing room, dining room and library as well as a large country kitchen with stone fireplace.

Other infrastructure includes the original 1828 timber hay and wool barn with attached horse stables.

Sitting on 25 hectares of land, the property has carrying capacity for either 70 ewes or 12 cattle. Alternatively, there’s capacity for production of around 750 hay bales annually. The balance of the property is native forest.

After a tree change with a business? The Tullah Tavern could be for you.  Built in 1920, the Tavern sits just off the Murchison Highway, offering accommodation, dining area and a bar.

The home, which has been renovated in the past five years, consists of two separate areas, each with their own entrance. One section has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and lounge. The other consists of two bedrooms, a bathroom and lounge area and would be ideal for holiday letting, according to the listing.

Tullah is located on Tasmania’s west coast and has a population of around 160 people.

First built as a family home around 1906, this grand property in the Hobart suburb of Battery Point has most recently been operating as a boutique hotel.

With ten bedrooms and ten bathrooms there would be room for the whole family, if the new owner opted to transform the property to its former use.

Alternatively, a new owner could live in and manage the property as a hotel.

Originally built as a church around 1874, this spectacular property in Pontville – now known as Twelve Stones – has been transformed into a modern masterpiece.

The ideal venue for a wedding or party, the property is being sold with the event centre business.

This six-bedroom property, known as Hanlon House, is located in the town of Stanley on Tasmania’s north-west coast.

Currently leased to a hospitality operator until 2021, with two further one-year options, it’s generating an annual income of around $396,000.

Five of the bedrooms feature ensuite bathrooms and the house can be configured in a variety of ways to suit guests ranging from school groups to families.

There’s also a granny flat with kitchenette and bathroom.
