Iconic Melbourne Skipping Girl building seeks new buyer
The Skipping Girl Vinegar building, one of Melbourne’s most recognised landmarks, has hit the market via Cushman & Wakefield after last selling in 2021, when it changed hands in an off-market deal worth over $20 million.
Positioned within the hum of Abbotsford, the property occupies a prominent Yarra River frontage just 3.2 kilometres from the CBD. The 2931-square-metre landholding includes a 3620-square-metre office building and 129 car spaces beneath the iconic Little Audrey sign.
Daniel Wolman of Cushman & Wakefield says the expressions-of-interest campaign is expected to attract a broad mix of buyers seeking to deploy capital into well-located, repositioning opportunities.
“We’re seeing strong interest from private investors, syndicators and developers who are focused on assets that offer multiple value-creation pathways, particularly those with the ability to generate income in the short term while retaining longer-term development optionality.
“Furthermore, the site’s positioning within a proven high-density corridor, alongside proximity to Victoria Gardens and the Yarra River parklands, further strengthens its appeal to both occupiers and future end users”.
This week, the iconic Skipping Girl sign has been temporarily replaced with a new Scrolling Girl sign as part of a Dairy Farmers campaign to promote healthier, more active lifestyles among young people. The original sign is set to return after the lifestyle campaign concludes.
The original, which depicts a little girl with a skipping rope, was Australia’s first neon sign, installed in 1936 to promote the nearby vinegar factory. At the time of its installation, Abbotsford was a thriving industrial hub, with factories and warehouses lining the Yarra River and supporting a growing working population.

In 2025, the building underwent an extensive renovation by the Singer Property Group, which saw the addition of a new lobby, ground-floor cafe, state-of-the-art office modules and end-of-trip facilities.
Current leasing opportunities include 10 office suites across four levels, ranging from 108 to 867 square metres, with some including private balconies and views over the Yarra River.
Aside from the lure of owning one of the most well-known sites in Melbourne, the site’s flexibility is also enticing as the existing office provides immediate income and occupancy potential, while the underlying landholding and Commercial 1 zoning support a range of future development possibilities.
