Outback pub has lengthy past of drawing in the locals
An outback pub has come on the market.

Outback pub offers true Aussie battler investment opportunity

Located in the heart of Sandstone, Western Australia, 660 kilometres north of Perth, The National is the only pub for kilometres. It boasts a lengthy past of being the go-to watering hole for locals and fossickers alike.

Built in 1907, this outback pub has watched prospectors chase their fortunes under the blazing West Australian sun for many years and welcomed them through their doors for a cold brew and a hearty feed. Today, this 300-square-metre heritage building is ready to welcome the next chapter in its story.

The National Hotel was built in 1907.

Listing agent Peter de Jonge from O’Neil Real Estate said it’s a strong investment opportunity and has already had steady interest.

“It would be the only licensed outlet for 150 kilometres. Sandstone is a major junction for mine transport vehicles, so the provision of accommodation and meals would be a great bonus.”

The pub is located in Sandstone, which is 660 kilometres north of Perth.

The property boasts not only the old hotel itself but an adjoining three-bedroom, one-bathroom home built in 2011. The modern residence includes generous living spaces, air-conditioning, verandahs, and an inviting in-ground pool.

There are also 14 rooms in transportables on-site, along with five rooms within the hotel itself serving as accommodation, which De Jonge said gave it a competitive advantage as there was no other accommodation in the area.

The property boasts the pub, five hotel rooms, 14 additional rooms and a seperate modern three-bedroom dwelling.

“Sandstone is extremely popular with gold prospectors and fossickers, with the caravan park is often filled. [The National] was one of four hotels built in the town and is the only one remaining,” said De Jonge.

Located conveniently within the centre of town and five minutes from the local airport, it’s also a favoured stopover for those travelling between Wiluna and Geraldton.
