Heard it through the grapevine: Capel Vale Wines in WA for sale
Capel Vale Wines, one of Western Australia’s most respected wineries, has been listed for sale. The winery, which was founded in 1974, is recognised as one of the Geographe and Margaret River region’s pioneering producers and is being offered to market for the first time as a fully operational, award-winning estate with strong future potential.
Set across 35.45 hectares at 118 Mallokup Road, Capel, the property includes 7.33 hectares of planted vines, producing malbec, chardonnay, shiraz and merlot. The Geographe region is renowned for its mild Mediterranean climate, with warm summer days, cooling afternoon sea breezes and cold overnight temperatures that consistently support the premium grape quality.
The on-site winery is designed for scale, with capacity to crush up to 2500 tonnes annually. The operation currently holds a licence to produce 450 kilolitres of wine per year, supported by an impressive 3 million litres of storage, including extensive oak. A fully equipped bottling facility sits alongside the winery, operating at speeds of approximately 6300 bottles per hour. Full machinery specifications for the bottling line are available to prospective purchasers.
There is also a cellar door offering wine tasting, and a venue that can be hired for functions, corporate seminars, weddings, and other private events.
With more than five decades of winemaking heritage and a loyal customer base across Western Australia and beyond, the listing has already attracted significant interest.
“This is a very rare offering – the chance to invest in one of WA’s most respected pioneering wine brands, with a legacy stretching back to 1974,” says Nick Goode, associate director of transaction services – agribusiness at Colliers. “We’re speaking with a diverse range of buyer groups, from established wine businesses looking to expand, to private investors and lifestyle purchasers wanting to secure a unique asset.”
Goode says the response since launch has been strong, underpinned by the estate’s reputation and its strategic position close to Perth, Bunbury and the world-renowned Margaret River region.
“We’ve received a great level of enquiry from both local and national buyers,” he says. “Capel Vale has long been a well-known and highly regarded winery within the Geographe and Margaret River regions, so its profile is certainly helping drive early momentum.”
Beyond its heritage and brand strength, Capel Vale offers multiple income streams from wine production to tourism, as well as opportunities to enhance the cellar door experience further, expand hospitality uses, or grow distribution networks.
Expressions of interest are now open.
