Famous Hannah's Pies site in Sydney's Ultimo up for grabs for $20 million

Famous Sydney pie cart Harry’s Café de Wheels owner Michael Hannah and his co-owners are selling the home of Hannah’s Pies, a prime site in Ultimo in the Sydney CBD, for about $20 million.

The site at 562-576 Harris Street, which is made up of a warehouse and adjoining terraces, has been put up for sale by auction.

Hannah’s Pies, which also offers pie and food sales over the counter at Harris Street, is the sole supplier to Harry Café de Wheels outlets.

The sale of the property comes as the pie cart business launches in China, with up to 300 of its carts to be rolled out across the country over the next 15 years.

“Its proximity to both the revitalised Darling Harbour and International Convention Centre is going to be a huge drawcard for both local and offshore groups,” Colliers International’s Miron Solomons, who is handling the sale with colleague Matt Pontey, said.

“We are expecting a lot of interest from student accommodation providers, due to the location of this site within the student accommodation epicentre.”

The site is nestled within Sydney’s university precinct including the University of Technology Sydney, University of Sydney and Sydney TAFE.

It is located right next to one of student accommodation provider Urbanest’s newest additions, Darling Square.

It is next to the soon to be former Powerhouse Museum, which is being eyed by UTS for a campus or student accommodation, it is understood.

The site is also ideal for potential residential development and will add to the apartment offering in the vicinity where local developer TWT is building its $300 million, 210-apartment project New Life/Ultimo at the former Tabcorp site, also on Harris Street.

The sale of the Hannah’s Pies site could mirror the sale of the vacant site at 142-152 Broadway nearby, which the University of Notre Dame snapped up last year for $21 million or $40,000 a square metre, Colliers International said.
