Famous Brisbane live-music venue The Mansfield Tavern up for sale
A hotel in Brisbane’s southern suburbs famous for hosting rock greats such as The Cult and The Angels has been put up for sale, and could be redeveloped.
The Mansfield Tavern, 11 kilometres south of the CBD, is one of the last remaining big-venue pubs in the city, according to the listing agents CBRE.
With a capacity of 1000 people, it has a history as a live music venue in the 1970s and 80s, reportedly hosting bands such as The Offspring, Hunters & Collectors, Madness, Hoodoo Gurus, The Angels and The Cult.
A once working-class Brisbane suburb, Mansfield has seen significant residential development in recent years.
The tavern has been leased to Coles Liquorland for the past 20 years and the company has a further five-year option that expires in November 2022. Coles Liquorland is the country’s second-largest hotel operator, with a portfolio of 98 hotels.
The pub sits on a two-hectare site, in a “good strong growth area”, which selling agent Paul Fraser said ”lends itself to some form of development”.
”I don’t believe it’s anywhere near it’s potential. A developer could say ‘We’ve got two big buildings here, why don’t we consolidate the bottle shop into the pub and redevelop part, or just develop the whole site?’ “, he said.
Although redevelopment was a possibility, a new owner could continue operating the tavern beyond its existing lease, said fellow agent Glenn Price.
The venue currently includes a public bar, gaming room with 31 machines, large entertainment space and a function room with bistro, as well as parking for 227 cars.
Mr Price, Mr Fraser and Daniel Dragicevich are marketing the property through an expression of interest campaign.
They have previously negotiated the sale of other Coles-leased hotel assets, including the The Jindalee Hotel, the Beenleigh Tavern and the Portadown Hotel.
