Drewitt's Cottage Circa. 1864

A distinctive and historic wine country getaway with modern facilities and a peaceful location along Wild Duck Creek, close to the vibrant wine township of Heathcote. The property has been exceptionally well received by paying visitors to the area and has the potential to earn in excess of $20,000 per year.

The property belonged to the Cornish couple Ann and Thomas Drewitt. They built a two room stone cottage on a rise above the creek, in the Cornish style using local sandstone. Thomas Drewitt was a baker in Heathcote in the 1860s, a member of the Roads Board and involved in the establishment of an early school at Wild Duck Creek.

Now affectionately known as 'Drewitt's Cottage', originally one room was a bedroom and the other a lounge room with fire place. This is now used as two bedrooms and would suit parents and children, or returned to its original use. The windows, thick walls, roof, ceiling and floors have all been meticulously restored in the last few years with the help of tradesmen qualified in the restoration of such heritage buildings. The cottage windows look over the land to the South West The cottage floors feature black slate flagstones.

A stunning glass walkway with LED floor lights links the old cottage to a modern extension of interesting design. This houses a kitchen with stainless steel electric oven, gas cooktop and concealed range hood. A large living area with oak flooring has a meals, study and TV nook. The lounge room has two centre-opening, double glazed sliding doors opening onto the two sided wide verandah with access to the patio overlooking the creek. The fully tiled bathroom takes advantage of the inherent privacy of the property by being equipped with an indoor and outdoor shower. There is also ducted split system for heating and cooling, under floor heating in kitchen and bathroom and a ceiling fan for year round comfort.

The old cottage has a wood-burning stove as well as a split system air conditioner.

The home is surrounded by a garden fence that keeps out rabbits and the odd roaming sheep or cow. Within the fence is an outdoor entertaining area, overlooking the creek, formed by low local-stone walls and equipped with a pizza oven/chiminea. The garden is new, having been completely landscaped.

The home has good NBN wireless connection and is on mains power with provision for a ground-mounted solar power system.

Drewitt's Cottage sits on a picturesque 14.2 acres of fertile grazing land with 200m of Wild Duck Creek frontage. The land has a small stand of mature pine trees, numerous mature eucalypts and an interesting rock reef. An old pear, fig and quince tree retain the memories of Ann and Thomas and the life-style of early settlers.

Heathcote is home to many renowned vineyards, 1.5 hours from Melbourne. A craft brewery is a vibrant local focus for the community and the highly-regarded Chauncy French restaurant, two pubs, gin lounge, wine hub, cafes and cellar doors add much to the friendly character of the township
