Five surprising places around the world that have a Trump Tower

For a man so opposed to Muslims, free trade and immigration, especially from south of the border, Donald Trump sure has made some surprising  decisions about where his ”Trump Towers” are built.

Barely a day goes by without a mention of the Republican presidential candidate walking out of his New York City Trump Tower.

So we thought we’d round up some less well-known locations that also have a Trump Tower, or edifice of some kind – either built or being built. These include a city with one of the biggest Muslim populations in the world, and another just south of the US border, in Central America.

Specific details of each project are difficult to come by, but it appears that most are the result of a collaboration between The Trump Organization and a local developer.

Trump Towers Istanbul, Turkey

Status: Completed 2012

Developed by Turkey’s big conglomerate Dogan Sirketler Grubu Holding, Trump Towers Istanbul features two towers: one residential, the other an office. The residential tower is described as being “just under 40 stories” with more than 200 apartments. Residents have access to a spa and fitness centre, an indoor pool and a 24-hour doorman. The office tower features a private entrance, a beauty centre, fitness area and pool.

A shopping mall of 37,000 square metres is at the base of the two towers.

But how long Trump’s name remains on the development remains in doubt.

His comments on Muslim migration to America during the presidential campaign raised the ire of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who said that the name should be removed from the towers.

“They put that brand on his building and it must be swiftly taken down,” Mr Erdogan reportedly said, according to a story posted to the state broadcaster’s website.

Trump Ocean Club, Panama

Status: Completed 2011

Okay, it’s not called a Trump Tower. But it is the tallest building in Central America – at 72 storeys – and it comes with a pretty impressive infinity pool.

Located in Punta Pacifica, Trump Ocean Club is also the country’s first five-star development, according to the development’s website. The tower houses 1004 units, including residences and hotel guestrooms.

Along with the pool, the building also has an ‘elite’ sky lobby (we’re not sure what makes it elite), restaurants and shops.

Trump Towers Pune, India

Built for India’s rich and famous, Trump Towers Pune is one of two projects underway in that country, the other being Trump Towers Mumbai.
Two towers, at 22 storeys each, have 44 single-floor condominiums, all with five bedrooms, home theatre room and a 360-degree view of Pune city.

Trump Tower Century City, Makati, Philippines

Status: Under construction, expected completion December 2016

Set to be one of the city’s tallest structures, Trump Tower Century City is entirely clad in what the company calls a “glass curtain”. The building will have 220 apartments.
According to The Trump Organization’s own website it will include Hermes furnishings in the common areas, a library, a ”sky garden” on the 30th floor with lap pool and jacuzzi, a sun deck that has ”breathtaking” views of Makati, and a ”stylish juice bar”.

Trump Tower Punte Del Este, Uruguay

Status: Under construction, expected completion unknown

”The only building in South America to bear the Trump name”, according to the Trump website, Trump Tower Punta del Este is located next to the Playa Brava beach.

Shaped like a cylinder, it features a sculpture gallery and marble lobby, and its residents can apparently ”share life’s great pleasures with like-minded people every day”.
