Dowie Doole named as buyer of McLaren Vale’s Conte vineyards
Three long-held vineyards sold this week by South Australian winemakers the Conte family have been bought by fellow McLaren Vale winemaker Dowie Doole.
The three Conte Estate Wines vineyards on California Road and Bayliss Road near Aldinga, planted by the family in 1965, were put up for sale last year with a $2.5 million price tag.
Colliers International’s Nick Goode and Nick Dean facilitated the sale of the 53-hectare property, which is planted with 35 hectares of shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, gewurztraminer and chardonnay varietals.
“The sale of Conte Estate vineyard represented an extraordinary opportunity with self-evident appeal to both existing wine industry participants and lifestyle buyers to develop and integrate the wine tourism potential of the property,” Mr Dean said.
The Conte family’s winery on Sand Road is run by second generation Steve Conte and his wife Maria, with their son Danial the winemaker.
Dowie Doole was founded in 1995 and operates a boutique winery and vineyard in McLaren Vale.
McLaren Vale, about 40 kilometres south of Adelaide, is regarded as one of Australia’s most prestigious wine districts.
