Brisbane’s Caxton Hotel sells for reported $50 million

The Caxton Hotel, one of Brisbane’s most iconic pubs, has sold for a reported $50 million to Sydney Roosters chairman Nick Politis.

The Petrie Terrace pub, located just 50 metres from Suncorp Stadium, was sold off-market to Eumundi Group Limited, which is owned by Politis’ SEQ Hospitality Group.

The sale was negotiated by Savills Australia and New Zealand on behalf of the Farquhar family, which has owned the venue for 28 years.

The Caxton Hotel is synonymous with Queensland’s sporting culture and is the go-to spot on Brisbane Broncos and State of Origin nights.

The acquisition by Eumundi Group, under Politis’ SEQ Hospital Group, now sees The Caxton Hotel join a portfolio that includes the Treetops Tavern at Burleigh Waters, Queens Arms Hotel at New Farm, Ashmore Tavern and Aspley Central Tavern, highlighting the group’s plans to expand its footprint across south-east Queensland.

“The Caxton Hotel is a true Brisbane institution,” says Leon Alaban, head of hotels at Savills Australia and New Zealand, who led the sale alongside Drew Mitchell, manager at Savills Australia and New Zealand.

“Its acquisition by Eumundi Group, under the strategic direction of SEQ Hospitality and Fortitudo, reflects the ongoing strength of Queensland’s hospitality sector and the enduring appeal of landmark venues.”
