The Regent Bower bird, Wompoo pigeon, Rose pigeon and many other beautiful species have been recorded on Kandaroo. The fauna of Kandaroo is yet to be impacted by the Cane Toad. The colonisation of the local area outside of the Nightcap National Park and Whian Whian State Conservation Area by the dreaded Cane Toad (Bufo Marinus) is well advanced.

Kandaroo lies 28 degrees 32 minutes South and 153 degrees and 17 minutes East and is part of the Mt Warning (Wollumbin) Volcanic Dome Shield in the far north east of NSW. Byron Bay is some 40kms to the east and Lismore is located 35kms to the south. Brisbane is 180kms to the north.

Kandaroo ranges from about 300m to 350 metres above sea level. It has a warm temperate to sub tropical climate and is at the inter face of two climatic zones. This contributes to its species diversity and unique ecological values. The property is comprised of red basalt lying between and over Nimbin Rhyolite. The red basalt provides rich, fertile, deep soils, while the neighbouring rhyolites located in the adjacent park and conservation area are of low fertility. This geology of Kandaroo contributes to its uniqueness within the park and conservation area, although it is not the only location to have some basalt occurring.

The property and surrounding park and conservation area experience the highest rainfall in NSW.

Kandaroo provides a base for experiencing the wonders of the dominant massifs, sheer cliff walls, lush green gullies and spectacular waterfalls which make up Nightcap National Park and Whian Whian State Conservation Area. Boomerang, Minyon and Quandong Falls are all nearby. But most visitors seem happy to just experience the magic of Kandaroo and do not venture outside its borders.
