The property was cleared in the early to mid-1960s at which time
the natural timber on the property was predominantly yate Mallee & sheoak.
There is an area of natural timber remaining on the property.
LAND USE
The vendors describe the potential grazing - cropping area of the
property to be approximately 1,059 ha, there is 171ha uncleared
with the remaining area comprising of laneways, buildings surrounds
and open space, shade, fence lines, dams and catchments and
waterways.
The property is well suited to a production system
incorporating cropping and or livestock.
CROPPING INFORMATION
"Smithfield" over many years has predominantly operated
as a cropping and grazing property with a sound rotation
in place for many years. Annually the rotation has included
wheat and barley.
In 2015 the planting includes approximately 500 ha's of barley.
The property is ideally suited to the production of wheat, barley, oats, lupins, canola and other legume cultivars.
LIVESTOCK
Sheep have occupied "Smithfield" for many yearswith current numbers around 2,900 with a peak stocking rate at 3,400 head.
The pastures on the property are excellent with a clover base across the majority of the property plus mixed grasses.
RAINFALL
"Smithfield" has enjoyed consistent rainfall records back for many years.
The annual average rainfall is in the 450 to 500 mm range with the majority falling in the winter months of May to October.
