History - an historic residence originally constructed in 1889, "Dromkeen" was the home of Judge Arthur Chomley who rose through the ranks of the legal profession to preside over both the County and the Supreme Courts of Victoria. His country estate was named "Dromkeen" to maintain a connection with his mother's family in Ireland. After change of ownership's, "Dromkeen" was purchased in 1956 by Art Entrepreneur, Mr Jack Manton with various additions made to the residence under his ownership. In 1973 "Dromkeen" was purchased by Mr & Mrs Oldmeadow and they saw the homestead both as a private residence and as a store centre for their educational bookshop. In 1985 the present owner purchased the property and since that time both the homestead and the Dromkeen Children's Literature Collection has continued to provide the opportunity of thousands of visitors.
