Sydney Adventist Hospital (SAH), known as 'the San', opened in Wahroonga on 1 January, 1903 with a bed capacity of 70.
Today the San is the largest private hospital in NSW.
The San is an acute-care private hospital with 360 current licensed overnight beds, with 2,300 staff and 750 accredited medical officers providing services for more than 53,000 inpatients, over 180,000 outpatients and delivering approximately 2,000 babies each year. Emergency Care sees approximately 20,000 patients each year making it NSW's largest and busiest private hospital Emergency Department.
The San is currently undertaking one of the largest developments in its history to help meet a projected increase in demand of over 50% for its services between 2010/11 and 2026/27.
The redevelopment includes the following:
- Increasing the number of Operating Theatres, with provision to add 10 to the current 14 theatres.
- New Integrated Cancer Centre, and a new Maternity and Womens Health Unit.
- Adding up to 200 new beds.
- A new entry and arrivals building New Clinical Education Centre.
The expanded services will improve patient access to first class medical practitioners, services and technology, while fostering growth of the new clinical Education Centre along with professional education and research opportunities.
An important part of this expansion is the development of the San Clinic Parkway which will meet the demand for additional specialist consulting suites.
