Since taking over the store, which has roots deep in the community’s history, she has made fantastic business decisions giving the store a huge breath of new life. Front Line was lucky enough to talk to Jodi to hear about all the wonderful things happening at Mancey’s this year.
Congratulations on Mancey's have and become an independent retailer this year.
I purchased the business in March 2016 and it has been a wonderful challenge for me. Since moving into this role I have changed a lot of the store layout which in itself has modernised and created quite a stir in our little community of 800 homes in the wider Oatlands district.
Who were the previous owners of Mancey’s and how long were they operating the business for?
The previous owners were Kerry and Ros Mancey. Kerry’s father started the business as a boot maker back in the 1950’s. Kerry himself was in the store for 46 years.
So quite a history! How has the community reacted to the changes?
I have heard a lot of positive feedback and there is nothing more satisfying than someone throwing open the door and saying ‘Oh my what a difference’. More often than not, I get a response of some sort from each customer who enters, especially since we switched the whole store over from winter to summer.
Through Thomas Cook via Wrangler USA’s ‘Tough Enough Campaign’ and Red Barn Western’s “Cowgirls United by Pink”, I purchased lots of t-shirts to support the breast cancer campaigns of these companies. We advertised them through the Mancey’s Face book page and sold out overnight! People really got behind the cause, which was wonderful to see.
Sounds like it was an amazing 2016,
With Oatlands being in the centre of Tasmania around an hour either way to Hobart or Launceston I look to ensure I can meet the community’s needs for product, keeping them “local” and strengthening our community. With a new buyer and the support from Frontlines organisation.
