Location: A town of 2,200 people and a Shire population of around 4,800, Guyra is located in the heart of the New England Tablelands. This delightful country town is located high on the Northern Tablelands of the Great Dividing Range, midway between Sydney and Brisbane, 30 minutes from Armidale and two hours from the Coffs coast. There are places to stay, from pretty campsites, caravan parks and riverside cabins to comfy motels, bed and breakfasts and farm stays.
Meander along the main street, where you'll find cafes and shops, including one widely known in knitting circles for fabulous wool hand knits and yarn. The town's economic basis as a service centre for the surrounding wool, beef, potato and fat lambs district is recognised in the annual Guyra Lamb and Potato Festival, held in late January. A more recent addition to the agricultural scene is Blush premium truss tomatoes, grown here in the largest (20 hectares) and most advanced glasshouse facilities in Australia, if not the southern hemisphere.
New England High Country boasts spectacular waterfalls, gorges, world-heritage national parks, cool-climate vineyards and a fascinating and diverse cultural heritage. Bushwalking, rock climbing, kayaking, fishing, birdwatching, camping and horse riding in some of the most scenic national parks and forests in the nation are on your doorstep.
Armidale Airport is located 8 km from Armidale's town centre on the New England Highway. Make the short trip north east using taxi services located at the front of the terminal. Alternatively, rent a car from hire services at the airport.
Annual events: Includes the Lamb and Potato Festival in January, the Guyra Show and Clay Target Competition in February, the Guyra Cup Horse Race in March, the Guyra Gun Club Annual Open Competition in July, the NSW Open Shooting Competition.
